Hawaiian clinches ‘green’ awards for sustainable developments

WA property group, Hawaiian, is fast becoming known for its sustainable developments in the property sector.

Hawaiian has recently been awarded the first 5 Star Green Star office design rating in Western Australia for the development of its commercial office tower on the heritage-listed Bishops See site at 235 St Georges Terrace.

The commercial office tower is a joint venture between Hawaiian and Brookfield Multiplex and is set for completion in February 2009.

This green rating follows on the heels of the group’s recent success in its refurbishment of a commercial office building in Sydney. Hawaiian was awarded the first 4 Star Green Star office design rating for an existing commercial building in New South Wales, with its refurbishment of 50 Pitt Street in Sydney’s financial precinct.

Hawaiian’s General Manager of Property Development, Stuart Duplock, is confident that the company has ‘got it right’ in terms of responding to the growing demand for sustainable properties.

“We understand that tenants and prospective tenants are keen to reside in ‘green’ office spaces and one that responds to holistic principles, particularly in terms of looking after our environment,” Mr Duplock said.

“Part of Hawaiian’s philosophy is very much about good corporate social responsibility and that includes taking into account the environmental wellbeing of all of our stakeholders.

“In the development at Bishops See, we’ve worked hard with our joint venture partner Brookfield Multiplex to ensure that this property will provide tenants with a range of sustainably sound benefits that they can enjoy into the future,” he added.

Being the very first 5 Star Green Star office design rating to be awarded in Western Australia is something that Stuart Duplock says Hawaiian is proud of.

“It means our tenants will be the first in Perth to enjoy the Green Building experience – it’s a good feeling to be the first to develop a sustainable property which is built on sound principles of considering our environment.”
